Don’t Let the Roadworks Taco-ver Your Lunch Plans

A popular Manx street food spot is urging customers not to forget about it while roadworks nearby cause disruption for commuters.

James Bennett, who runs Meximann from the White Hoe car park on Old Castletown Road, says the business ‘might need some support for the next couple of weeks’ while a nearby road closure remains in place.

A section of Old Castletown Road outside White Hoe Industrial Estate is currently shut and will remain closed until Wednesday, March 25 to allow refurbishment works to take place at the White Hoe Wastewater Pumping Station.

As anyone who has attempted the commute yesterday (Monday) or today (Tuesday) will know, the closure has already caused some fairly chunky queues at rush hour, with drivers heading to and from work in Douglas facing delays.

A spokesperson for Manx Utilities confirmed that construction activity will be kept within the pumping station site boundary.

However, several manhole covers along Old Castletown Road need to be replaced as part of the works, meaning the road must remain closed while the job is carried out.

But while the traffic situation may look a little chaotic nearby, James says Meximann is very much still open for business.

He said: ‘I think it’s common knowledge now that the road near me is shut for at least two weeks, but maybe less common knowledge that we will still be open!

‘In fact if you’re coming from the Eden Park side then it’ll probably be easier to get to us than normal. Obviously coming from the Tesco side is a write-off until the road opens.

‘With this in mind feel free to pre-order so it’s ready for pick-up and save you a few minutes.

‘As always we are open from 9.30am to 2.30pm Tuesday to Saturday, come get some!’

Meanwhile, Fitness Pod, a 24-hour gym, is very much still open in the White Hoe Industrial Estate, with them adding: ‘Don’t let a little two hour commute put you off your goals’.
