Food Artist Takes the Cake at Industry’s ‘Oscars’
An Isle of Man cake designer has won a prestigious award at the ‘Oscars’ of the industry.
Aimee Ford, a globally recognised cake artist from Peel, was nominated in four categories at the DMA Cake Awards, organised and hosted by top industry publication D’licious magazine at the prestigious Allington Castle in Kent.
The accolades are regarded as the ‘Oscars’ of the cake industry and aim to recognise outstanding talent across the globe in the fields of cake decorating and icing artistry.
Aimee was shortlisted for Cake Designer of the Year, One to Watch, Cake Artist of the Year, and Flawless Finish.
With no expectations of winning, she was casually humming along to the background music when her name was announced as the winner of Flawless Finish.
She said: ‘I’ll be honest, I wasn’t really paying massive attention. Then I suddenly heard my name, and everyone around me started cheering. I just had that moment of, “Oh my god, I won. Wow.” Totally unexpected.’

‘Flawless Finish is a really tough category because it means your work is literally perfect. The people I was up against—I’m in awe of them.’
The judging process is conducted anonymously, ensuring that all nominees are evaluated purely on their work rather than reputation.
But Aimee is no stranger to industry recognition, having cemented her position as a leader in the cake community in recent years.
With 13 years of experience, her work blends modern art, fashion, and design to create edible masterpieces.
Her international reputation has grown significantly in recent years. Earlier this year, she was selected from 11,500 nominees worldwide to reach the DMA Awards shortlist, representing the Isle of Man against finalists from the USA, Dubai, and Iraq.
‘This year has been pivotal for my international career, and being a finalist in so many incredible categories is truly overwhelming,’ Aimee said when she was first nominated.
‘Representing the Isle of Man on this global stage is an honour, and I’m grateful to be recognised by my peers in such a competitive industry.’

Aimee’s expertise has led to teaching and judging opportunities across the world. She has previously taught at Cake International, the world’s largest cake show, and judged major competitions such as Cake Art Bulgaria. She has also been invited to judge a cake competition remotely in Brisbane, Australia.
In addition to her award-winning cakes, Aimee has launched her own cake-making product line, which has quickly gained popularity among professionals and amateur bakers alike.
Following her award win, Aimee has been invited back to teach at Cake International and will continue to take part in industry-leading events.
‘I have massive imposter syndrome. People assume I’m confident, but the reality is I second-guess myself all the time. I think a lot of creative people feel that way,’ she admitted.
Despite her self-doubt, Aimee’s success speaks for itself and from international judging roles to designing innovative cake products, she continues to push the boundaries of cake artistry.
