Post Office Seeking Views on Mail Plane

Isle of Man Post Office has begun working with Royal Mail to review the implications of removing the dedicated aircraft that brings letters and parcels to the island.

Royal Mail has announced it is looking at dropping the mail plane and delivering everything to the island by ferry.

As part of the changes, Royal Mail is changing delivery dates to the island, moving away from any next day delivery to a two day delivery system which is due to come into effect on August 3.

Despite this August 3 date, the air mail plane won’t be dropped at this time, no timescale has yet been given for that.

A spokesperson for Isle of Man Post Office said: ‘Isle of Man Post Office have begun working with Royal Mail to review the implications of removing the dedicated aircraft that brings letters and parcels to the Island. This would provide the opportunity to jointly reduce costs whilst demonstrating a commitment to minimising the impact on the environment.

‘These discussions are in the very early stages and a full understanding of the benefits would need to be achieved. This would result in a two day service for sending and receiving mail to and from the Island. IOMPO is currently seeking the views of businesses using our services and reviewing the responses from its recent residential and business customer surveys.’
