Whitestone Now Shut for Refurb

If you’ve been planning a cheeky pint or a cosy meal at the Whitestone in Ballasalla, well, you’ll have to wait a little longer.

Okell’s Inns have confirmed the village favourite is now closed for refurbishment and won’t reopen until the end of February.

But it sounds worth the wait.

According to Okell’s, the Whitestone is getting a stylish new look, a refreshed bar area and an exciting new menu celebrating local ingredients.

Don’t worry, though, it promises to stay very much the village gem we all know and love.

The team has encouraged everyone to ‘watch this space for regular updates’, so keep your eyes peeled for sneak peeks of the makeover.

So, for now, Ballasalla folk will have to travel a bit further for a bite and a pint.

Bit of history for you

If you’re anything like Gef, you love a bit of pub history.

The Whitestone dates back to at least 1812 when William Kinley was running it.

Originally frequented by the local farmers who had been to the adjoining cattle mart, it was a popular watering hole for tourists visiting Rushen Abbey, as it was, at that time, the only licensed house in the village.

One can plainly see how it has been extended over the years into adjoining properties.
