Douglas’ Newish Lifeboat

Tomorrow will see a new lifeboat enter service in Douglas, one that is very familiar to Manx shores.

The RNLB Ruby Clery is replacing RNLB Marine Engineer, which has been based at the station for four years.

Ruby Clery has previously served both Peel and Ramsey for a combined 30 years and joins Douglas after ‘an extensive refit’.

The RNLI said: ‘Today RNLI Douglas said goodbye to RNLB Marine Engineer after she was launched for the final time. RNLB Marine Engineer came to Douglas in April 2018 and entered service for the station in August of that year, she has attended more than 40 service calls and countless training exercises in her four years of service.

‘Our passage crew are currently on their way to Fleetwood where they will swap all operational equipment to RNLB Ruby Clery as the replacement lifeboat for Douglas station.’

Meanwhile, Douglas RNLI has said it hopes to have news on plans for its new lifeboat house ‘very soon’.
