Ed Space on the Hunt For New Office Base

A Manx mental health initiative set up in memory of Eddie Joyce is on the hunt for a new home after outgrowing its “living room beginnings”.

Ed Space, which began as an idea shared between friends, says it has now reached the point where it needs a proper office base in Douglas or the surrounding area.

What started with small ‘Bags of Hope’ left around the island, each containing a small gift and mental health helpline information, has since grown into a wider support effort for the community.

Inspired by UK charity Andy’s Man Club, the group also helped establish Ed’s Man Club on the island, offering a safe space for men to talk openly about mental health.

In a post calling for help, founders Shirley and Dan said the project has now outgrown kitchen tables and living room paperwork.

They wrote that they are looking for a base where ‘the magic can happen’, ideally with a private office space, a small amount of storage, and basic facilities, adding that while they are not expecting anything fancy, they jokingly said they would even consider ‘a bucket in the corner’ if the price was right.

Parking is also on the wish list, with the team joking they would prefer not to ‘play tag with the traffic warden’.

The group said affordability is key, with funds instead needed for supporting people across the island.

They added: ‘We’re flexible (but can’t do the splits), and promise to be the best neighbours you’ve ever had.’

Ed Space was founded in memory of Eddie Joyce, who tragically died in June 2024 aged 50. He was described as a devoted family man who had battled with his mental health.

The team is now asking anyone with a spare office, a lead, or even a ‘secret annex’ to get in touch.
