Emily is taking part in a week-long lifeboat crew exchange programme organised by the International Maritime Rescue Federation.
Douglas RNLI volunteer Emily Heaton is spending a week working alongside the Dutch equivalent of the RNLI.
Emily is taking part in a week-long lifeboat crew exchange programme organised by the International Maritime Rescue Federation.
The annual exchange programme, funded by the IMRF, has been running since 2012, takes volunteers from a variety of maritime rescue services across Europe and provides an opportunity for them to visit other countries and learn from their Search and Rescue (SAR) practices.
This allows the different groups to share knowledge and learning and exposing RNLI crew to different ideas, training methods and experiences will help to improve the maritime SAR response for all participating organisations.
Emily said: ‘I have been volunteering with Douglas RNLI for 18 years so am really excited to be selected to take part and to further my learning by experiencing SAR practices within a similar organisation in another country. I am proud to be given this opportunity to represent the RNLI and to share my experiences with the KNRM.’
