Firefighters Take on HYROX in Full Kit for Mental Health
Down South gym in Ballasalla is gearing up for an epic challenge on January 23, as local firefighters Kieran Thomas and Andy Lean prepare to take on the HYROX PRO Doubles, and they’re doing it with a twist.
For anyone, like us, who aren’t familiar with HYROX, it’s a global fitness race that mixes running with eight intense functional workout stations.
Think 8km of running, rowing, sled pushes, wall balls and more, basically a full-body endurance test.
Now, add the weight, heat, and restrictions of full firefighting gear, and you’ve got a whole new level of brutal.
Kieran and Andy aren’t just testing their fitness, they’re doing it to make a big difference.
They’re raising money for Isle Listen, a Manx charity dedicated to supporting mental health across the island through counselling, education, and awareness programmes.
‘Mental health affects us all,’ the team at Down South said. ‘Isle Listen’s work makes a real difference to people across our island, helping those who are struggling to get the support they need.
‘Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly towards helping Isle Listen continue their vital work.’
The pair are putting in the hours at Down South, pushing through every run, row, and wall ball in training. But they say knowing people are behind them for race day makes all the difference.
If you’d like to support Kieran, Andy, and Isle Listen, donations are welcome, every bit counts.
And come Friday, January 23, we’ll be cheering on two local heroes as they take on one of the toughest fitness challenges around… in full firefighting kit.
