Heavy Mental Health 3

Later this month, the island’s best heavy metal bands will come together to raise some much needed cash for mental health charities.

This year the money will be split between Isle Listen and the Food Bank, with organisers wanting to also help with the cost of living crisis on island, which can further lead to mental health problems for many people.

Held at Secret Pizza in Castletown, on Saturday November 26, the event gets underway at 11am and will run through the day to midnight.

Taking to the stage will be: Persian Doormats, Dusty Plankton, Mötorlegs, CUNFriday, Night Time Tennis, Aeons, Moder, Rock Project, Shady Aches and Half Naked Headline.

You can buy tickets for HMH3 here, priced at £13, you can also make a donation to the Foodbank, £3 is about the price of a loaf of bread and four tins of beans, to some it’s £3, barely noticeable, but that can make a big difference for others on our island.

Juan’s Running

As well as HMH3, organiser Juan Christian, of Compton Vaults fame (doesn’t seem like a strong enough word), is undertaking a marathon effort (and then some) to run from the Point of Ayre to the Sound, a distance of 58KM.

Juan told Gef: ‘I’ve hit some setbacks already, two injuries which have hugely impacted my training. Patella tendinitis and a slip in the shower leading to a crumpled up little toe have not only halted my training but set me back mentally.

‘The charities chosen here are the same we picked for our Heavy Mental Health Gig, the Iom food bank and Isle Listen. Two very important places where the community can receive much needed support.

‘Having experienced personal tragedy through loosing family and friends to suicide and having had my own personal battles, it’s something I feel I can do to help someone else, no matter how little I give. This event is not only to raise funds but also awareness. Please share with your friends and family and help us help others.’
