Helping Victims of Earthquake
At least 36,000 people are confirmed to have died.
Having seen the devastation caused in Syria and Turkey by the earthquake earlier this month, many people have wanted to find a way to helps those most affected.
At least 36,000 people are confirmed to have died in the earthquake, with that toll only likely to rise.
For Christine Mills a personal trainer who has been helped by Elite Group IT here on the island, the devastation is not too far from home, her mum Lynda lives in a town which while it was away from the epicentre, has become a sort of refugee town.
As survivors of the earthquake have arrived with little more than the shirts on their backs, Christian, Lynda and their friends have been busy fundraising and buying vital supplies such as nappies, children’s hats, gloves and underwear.
Elite said: ‘While Lynda is, fortunately, miles away from the earthquake zone, she has been busy buying supplies with funds raised by donations. These include blankets, baby formula, nappies and warm clothes, which have all been donated to collection points set up by local authorities.
‘The page has received an amazing response, with the initial fundraising target of £500 smashed, and the appeal has now raised over £1,600.’
