Manx Farmers’ Role in Alder Hey Fundraiser

One of the island’s most popular Christmas traditions has once again been bringing light and raising cash for the children at Liverpool’s Alder Hey Hospital.

Organised by farmer Olly Harrison, of Olly Blogs Youtube fame, the Liverpool Tractor Run was featured on this morning’s BBC Breakfast.

Olly said: ‘I visited Alder Hey once and there’s sick children in there at Christmas and I thought it’s rubbish, what can we do to make it better?

‘I saw it done in the Isle of Man a few years ago and I thought we can do it better over here because there’s more tractors and that’s what we’re doing.’

While we would argue the point over who does it best, this is the third year Olly had organised the event in Liverpool, giving up hours of his time to plan with other farmers and Merseyside Police.

His target for this year’s Tractor Run was to raise £100,000 for Alder Hey, which he hopes will go towards a new ward the hospital wants to build.

This year 110 tractors took part in the Liverpool run, which finished at Alder Hey where BBC Breakfast showed the joy it had brought to the kids, their parents and the staff.

As for our Isle of Man Young Farmers, they have raised over £15,000 this year for Manx charities and over £35,000 since the first run, which was held in 2018.
