Motiv8 Welcomes Fine for Gambling Giant
Motiv8 is entirely funded by local gambling firms and the wider community.
In the wake of the announcement that Entain, the company behind popular betting brands Ladbrokes and Coral, has been fined £17m for lapses in consumer protection, local charity Motiv8 is reminding island residents that its service supports those affected by alcohol, drug, gambling and gaming disorders.Â
Motiv8 is currently helping 405 people on the island with their own or a family member’s misuse of drugs, alcohol, gambling or gaming. The charity offers free and confidential counselling and the majority of its counsellors are Gamcare trained associates specially trained in gambling disorder counselling support.Â
A freephone service is available on 0800 1624 627 from 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday. There is no waiting list for appointments. The service also offers daytime and evening one-to-one appointments as well as group work programmes.
Motiv8 CEO Thea Ozenturk welcomed the news that the £17m Entain settlement will be given to social responsibility causes.
She said: ‘Our own work in the gambling sector is entirely funded by the generosity and support from local gambling firms and the wider community who choose to donate to us. Without that help we simply couldn’t support the island community to combat addiction problems.Â
‘We also recognise that problem gambling is an issue that many gambling firms are actively trying to address and we welcome more interaction with those who are based on the Isle of Man.’
