This weekend saw a huge increase in teams and relayers, and celebrating 617 years of survivorship with over 70 cancer survivors.
The organising committee were joined by Trudy Stammer, head of community led fundraising for Cancer Research UK in an Island first for such high profile representation from the charity.
Trudy and other guests threw themselves into the usual mix of family fun, food, a VIP afternoon tea, including some Christmas celebrations, a horse race and beauty pageant!
The on the day total surpassed all expectations, and the charity said the committee were ‘delighted to welcome Lieutenant Governor Sir John and Lady Lorimer to announce the teams efforts in raising a massive £103,103.36for critical life saving cancer research’.
Cancer Research UK’s ambition is to see 3/4 people survive their cancer by 2034, and funds research into all 200 forms of cancer.
Debbie Williamson, event chair said: ‘I am lost for words again- our local community support and particularly our relayers give their all to this campaign and work tirelessly all year round.
‘Watching a sea of purple t-shirts on our cancer survivors from the huge numbers of cancer survivors for our opening and closing laps of honour, sends a real life message to us all in how much research means to Manx patients and how much this event brings hope to so many of our families.
‘It is an honour to work with such amazing people in our community and such generous local businesses who make it all possible.’
