All You Need to Know Ahead of Inaugural Drone Show

Get ready for a night that’s bound to light up the sky – and not just with stars!

Tonight, March 20, at 7.30pm, Douglas is going to make history with its first-ever official drone show, as part of City Day celebrations marking the anniversary of Douglas being granted city status.

So, what’s going to happen? Well, imagine this: a stunning 15-minute display where drones zoom through the sky, forming dazzling shapes, all set to music. Think of it as the future of fireworks, but with more buzz!

Organised by Douglas City Council and staged by Star Symphony Drone Shows (who are providing this spectacle for free), the show will kick off at 7.30pm.

If you’re planning to see this aerial marvel, your best bet is to head to Loch Promenade, between the Bee Gees statue and Howard Street.

But, here’s the catch – make sure you stick to the designated viewing areas! The Bottleneck car park is closed from 6pm, and Victoria Street will be off-limits during the show.

Oh, and don’t even think about sneaking a peek from the Bottleneck car park – there’s a no-pedestrian zone for safety reasons.

Douglas City Council has informed Gef that the show won’t be visible from Douglas Head, so best to stick to the prom. It’ll be busy.

And yes, the Isle of Man Civil Aviation Administration is getting serious about safety too – so no rogue drones or planes are allowed to fly within 1,000 metres of the Bottleneck car park between 7.20pm and 8pm. The sky’s going to be very exclusive for those 40 minutes!

The drone show has some serious backing too, with the Department for Enterprise stepping in to cover the costs, while ELS Group Ltd is providing the sound system free of charge (thanks, guys!).

Justin McMullin and Ricky Rooney of ELS Group couldn’t be more excited, calling it a “chance we couldn’t miss” – and after 15 years of lighting up events, we’re sure this one’s going to be a big one!
