Sections of play equipment at Jubilee Park in Birch Hill have been closed following what Onchan District Commissioners described as ‘significant damage’ caused overnight.

The authority said parts of the pirate ship play area had to be cordoned off for safety reasons after damage caused by a group of young people on Wednesday night.

In a statement, the Commissioners said repairs would be carried out ‘as soon as practicable’ in order to restore the equipment.

Until then, residents are being urged to take extra care when using the remaining facilities at the park and to report any further damage directly to the local authority.

The Commissioners confirmed that police have been informed about the incident.

The statement said: ‘We regret to inform residents that, following significant damage caused by a group of young people at Jubilee Park, Birch Hill, last night, sections of the pirate ship play equipment have had to be closed off for safety reasons.

‘The Authority will carry out repairs as soon as practicable to reinstate the equipment.’

The local authority also issued a reminder to parents and guardians to be aware of their children’s whereabouts and activities.

It added: ‘We would also like to remind parents and guardians to be aware of their children’s whereabouts and activities – do you know where your children were last night?’

The Commissioners thanked residents for their cooperation and continued support in helping keep the community safe.
