The race is on to be the island’s next top poet.

While the current Bard is still very much in place, Boakesey’s time will come to an end in the summer and a new poet will be needed.

The competition is open to all residents of the Isle of Man aged 18 or over, with the winner inaugurated on Sunday August 25.

They will then hold the title for a year and get to write poems for several key events in the Manx calendar.

Entries should comprise up to three poems of your own composition, together with a brief proposal of up to 500 words outlining how you would envisage spending a year as Manx Bard.

The deadline for entries is Friday August 16.
