Community Leaders Pay Tribute to Queen

After the death of Queen Elizabeth II Lord of Mann, leaders of the island’s local authorities have been issues statements of condolence and tribute to the Queen and her family.

Following the death of the Queen, Charles III is now the Lord of Mann, with a formal proclamation due in the coming days.

Chairman of Arbory and Rushen Parish Commissioners, Kirrie Jenkins on behalf of the Board, said: ‘In June this year we celebrated her majesty Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years as monarch and our Lord of Mann. Today we were all saddened to learn of her passing. Her unstinting dedication and service has been an example and inspiration. She was devoted to her role and was a symbol of strength and stability across the world. We join with so many others in sending our sincere condolences to His Majesty The King and the Royal Family.’

Chairman of Castletown Town Commissioners Jamie Horton said: ‘It was with profound sadness that we learned of the death of Her Majesty The Queen today. Queen Elizabeth The Second was a monarch admired and adored around the whole world, not least to us locally as Lord of Mann.Her sense of duty was impeccable and universally renowned continuing until recent days in her 97th year. On behalf of members of Castletown Town Commissioners, I would like to send our condolences to His Majesty The King and The wider Royal Family.’

Chair of Port Erin Commissioners, Mr Godfrey Egee said: ‘On behalf of Port Erin Commissioners I would like to send our deepest condolences to His Majesty The King and the Royal family having learned of the very sad news of the passing of HRH Queen Elizabeth II, our Lord of Mann today. Her majesty was an inspiration to millions across the globe, working tirelessly during her 70 year reign. She will be greatly missed.’

Chairman of Port St Mary Commissioners, Bernadette Williams MBE said: ‘It is with deepest sorrow that we have learned of the death of our Monarch, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Lord of Mann. A woman not born to be Queen, yet who devoted her whole life to the role when it fell to her as a young woman. She truly was inspirational, and her loss will be felt worldwide. On behalf of the Board of Commissioners and the people of Port St Mary, I send our heartfelt condolences to King Charles III and the Royal Family in their time of grief. They are in our thoughts and prayers. God Save the King.’

Ffinlo Williams Chairman of Ramsey Town Commissioners said: ‘It was with great sadness I learnt of the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, Lord of Mann. I knew this day would come, but none the less it has come as a shock. Queen Elizabeth has served her country unfailingly for 70 years, as a young Chairman, only 4 months into my 1 year in the role, that amount of time and dedication is unfathomable.

‘As with any public figure there has been scrutiny over those 70 years, but she did not shy from her duty.She has been a constant throughout my life and many others, and that unwavering devotion to her country and people – including us as Lord of Mann is inspiration in itself and something I feel commands the utmost of respect. On behalf of members of Ramsey Town Commissioners, I extend my condolences to the Royal Family at this sad time.’
