Douglas Needs Your Ideas to Save the High Street

Douglas city centre bosses have put the call out for public suggestions on how to bring life back to the capital’s struggling high street.

In a Facebook post this week, Douglas City Centre Management asked islanders what one thing would make them visit town more often – and the replies have come flooding in.

Suggestions range from the obvious (affordable parking and toilets that aren’t grim) to creative ideas like turning empty shops into pop-up markets, art spaces, or rehearsal venues.

It comes as more local businesses sound the alarm over dropping footfall – especially in the evenings.

Terry’s Tato’s trialled longer hours, but said it might not be worth it.

Gourmet Shakes is off to Windsor Road after TT.

Others, like The Boredroom and Yasmin’s Baby Boutique, have already packed up.

DCCM says it’s listening – and will review the feedback to figure out what’s next.
