Chips Cheese & Gravy – Beer Pairing

Published

on

Want to take your Chips, Cheese and Gravy to the next level? Why not pair it with some good beer!Forget the wine, BEER is where it’s at when it comes to pairing with food, and with the number of styles available to us now, there’s pretty much a beer to go with any meal.

So what should you be drinking with your CC&G?

We’ve narrowed down the options to three beer styles…First up we’d go for an American style IPA. Big hop flavours with a citrus kick will bring that cheddar cheese tang to the fore, this will work even better if you use a mature cheddar.

The carbonation of the beer will cleanse the palate after your thick chippy style gravy, leaving you ready for the next mouthful.Alternatively, you could go for a stout. A stout is another beer that goes well with cheese, but the roasty malts used in a stout will complement a rich gravy too and move your humble CC&G to a whole new level.

And finally, if your feeling a little brave, track down a Belgian Quadrupel. This is a big Belgian beer, normally around 9%-13% ABV. This could potentially overpower your CC&G, but if you ramp up the thickness of your gravy and maybe choose a stronger, more vintage cheese, this will work wonders.

With such a big beer you’ll probably have some leftover, so grab yourself a chocolate or caramel dessert and enjoy it with the rest of the beer.

Enjoy!
