How You Can Help Save The Family Library

Published

on

You’ll have seen the news today that the Family Library has revealed plans to close for good on Thursday, July 31.

But a heartfelt plea has been issued, and yes, you can help!

All services – including the Children’s Library, Mobile Library Bus, Home Delivery Service and Bibliotherapy – are set to shut down unless urgent support can be found.

The team says rising costs and falling income have left them facing a £100k annual funding gap that can no longer be sustained.

But it’s not over yet — they’re urging the public to get involved: contact your MHK, share their posts, pop in for a visit, or donate if you can.

More than 2,000 people across the island use the service, which has been a charity since government funding cuts.

While government funding ceased in 2020, it resumed again and a five-year funding arrangement has been in place since 2022 on a sliding scale from £125k in August that year to £65k next August.

But this could be the final chapter — unless the island rallies round. Find out more on their website and social pages.
