A podcast series all about Manx food and folklore has won at the Fortnum & Mason Food & Drink Awards.

Blasstal, hosted by Lucy Dearlove and Katie Callin beat off competition from Ed Gamble and James Acaster’s Off Menu podcast.

The three part series, part of Lecker’s wider offering, explored the most iconic Manx foods (moots, skeddan (herring) and loaghtan) and the superstitions, folklore, songs and traditions about them.

Reacting to their win, Lucy tweeted: ‘I’m eating pizza in a hotel room in Bucharest absolutely buzzing at this news!!!’

She later also thanked Culture Vannin for its support of the podcast. Director of Culture Vannin Breesha Maddrell said the win was ‘one to shout about’.

If you haven’t heard the series, it is really fun and entertaining, plus will teach you a fair bit about Manx food! You can find it here or wherever else you find podcasts.

The winner in each category receives a unique trophy created by eco-parametric architects Mamou Mani, a Fortnum & Mason Hamper and a bottle of Fortnum & Mason Vintage Champagne.
