Mystery Solved: Castletown’s Harbour Heron Has a Name!

The wait is over, Castletown!

The Creative Network has officially christened the towering heron statue that’s been gracing the harbour – say hello to Coar ny Hastan!

The name was revealed on Tuesday, putting an end to all the speculation and playful guesses from locals.

You might be wondering, ‘What on earth does that mean?’.

Well, in the poetic tongue of Manx, Coar ny Hastan translates to ‘rane of the eels’.

Installed earlier this month, this 26-foot-tall beauty stands proudly on Castletown Harbour and is the star attraction of the blossoming Silverburn Art Trail.

Created by Manx art powerhouses Stephanie Quayle and Darren Jackson, Coar ny Hastan is already causing a stir with locals and visitors alike, and it’s not hard to see why.

The Creative Network reckon it’s ‘probably the largest heron sculpture in the world!’.

Whether you’re grabbing a selfie or just admiring its majestic wingspan, this new addition is already ruffling some feathers.
