New Plans Revealed for Lord Street Site

Ever woken up and thought to yourself ‘there’s NOTHING to do here?’ You’ve exhausted all the museums, it’s too cold for the beach, you can’t bring yourself to watch The Garfield Movie at the cinema for a 16th time, and last time you went to the pub before 11am you ended up getting arrested for planking on top of the BeeGees statue. Well, plans are in place to give you a few more options on how to use your time that don’t lead to death by orange cat exposure or incarceration.

Isle of Man company Wyyttavin Limited wants to make North Quay the place to be and has submitted plans for a £60million mixed-use development on the Lord Street site in Douglas. It’s set to include everything bar a NASA space station:

• A 4-screen cinema complex, including hospitality facilities

• Retail units

• Restaurants and food hall

• Leisure facilities

• State-of-the-art office facilities

• Bus information centre & bus drivers’ welfare facilities

• Indoor bus information centre and waiting area for bus passengers to include seating, toilets, heating and changing facilities

• Five new bus stands on Lord Street with associated waiting areas

• Site development with new paving and landscaping work

• 85 high quality apartments with a mix of 1 beds, 2 beds and 3 beds

• 91 parking spaces for residents of the apartments

The development doesn’t have a formal name at the moment and suggestions of McMixed-Use Development Face have been squashed.

If the planning application is approved, it’s estimated the building work would take up to 2 years in total.

Wyyttavin Limited says it’s ‘key goal is to transform the site by creating an architectural landmark of stature and elegance within a high-quality, sustainable urban setting for the benefit of the resident community and visitors alike.
