Noticed Issued for Sunk Fishing Boat

The Harbours Division of the DoI has issued an advisory note regarding the fishing boat which sank off Laxey.
The June Rose PL4, sank, despite the efforts of her crew and the RNL about four nautical miles off Clay Head on Wednesday February 7.
After being launched, the volunteers at Douglas RNLI discovered another fishing boat had attempted to tow the 15m fishing boat that was taking on water but unfortunately dropped the tow.
However, they found that the June Rose was not only taking on water it had lost power, and had no communications working. The Douglas lifeboat crew deployed a salvage pump to mitigate the flooding, and one of the volunteer lifeboat crew went aboard to assist in setting it up.
However, during an attempt to tow her back to Douglas, the captain made use of a radio given to him by the RNLI to signal he needed to be lifted off as the situation continued to deteriorate.
The fishing boat then sank at the position 54 12.721N 004 16.445W.
The Harbours Division said: ‘The water in the area is 26-30m in depth and the wreck is not buoyed and mariners are advised to exercise extreme caution in the area. Please be aware there may be flotsam in the area.’
