Another Shoprite store is soon to bite the dust as this weekend we say goodbye to Port Erin Shoprite.
It’ll be rebirthed in Tesco superstore form in May.
It was announced in October that retail giant Tesco had bought the Shoprite supermarket chain, which has served the Isle of Man for more than 50 years. The takeover means the island will end up with a total of 10 Tesco outlets; 5 superstores and 4 Express stores.
Douglas and Castletown outlets were the first to go at the start of the new year with the Castletown site reopening as the island’s first Tesco Express on 15 February.
The Victoria Road superstore in Douglas was originally due to re-open later this month, meanwhile, Ramsey’s little Shoprite on St Paul’s Square closed on 24 February ahead of its transition.
