Spitfire Out, Lancaster In
Armed Forces Day is on Saturday in the Villa Marina from 1pm.
Plans to have a Spitfire fly over the island this weekend have crumbled, with the plane being replaced with a Lancaster Bomber.
Organisers of Armed Forces Day said that the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight organisers have said that they aren’t able to send a Spitfire.
However, in its place will be a Lancaster Bomber.
AFD organisers said: ‘It’ll be coming fresh from the King’s birthday flypast in London and will be with us around 2.38pm, subject to the time it takes to enter and exit London airspace and the usual caveats. It should come from the South East over Douglas Head and is expected to do several passes before leaving to the West.’
Armed Forces Day is on Saturday in the Villa Marina from 1pm.
