Time to Pay Rent to Manannan

Check our Culture Vannin for more on this and so much more!

As ever we have to thank Gef’s friends at Culture Vannin for their work on this.

For generations, Manxies have, on the eve of Tynwald Day, paid tribute to Manannan by taking a bundle of rushes up South Barrule.

This is traditional seen as us paying our rent to Manannan for living on our amazing island and to pay tribute to him protecting the island from invaders by using his cloak of mist.

As Culture Vannin’s video shows, rent day is today, will you be making the climb?

What you need to do:
? Get a few rushes from the moorland there at the base of the hill
? Carry them up the hill and deposit them under a rock at the summit
? Admire the views of Manannan’s land and return home safe & sound!
