West End Stars to Come to Island for Mary Poppins Workshops
Elite Theatre Arts to offer a year’s full scholarship to two lucky young performers
Winds in the East, mist coming in, like something is brewing, about to begin… It is. Well, in August it is. Elite Theatre Arts is bringing the magic of Mary Poppins to the Isle of Man.
The local theatre company is giving young performers the opportunity to train with WEST END STARS. Matthew Cox (Mary Poppins, Dick Whittington, and The Odyssey directed by Christopher Nolan) and Naoimh Morgan (Rumpleteazer in Cats the Movie, BBC’s Hope Street, choreographer on Apple TVs The Buccaneers) are coming over especially to help run two Mary Poppins-themed workshops.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. ‘WOW. I love drama and umbrellas and West End stars! What an opportunity! But I’m not signed up to Elite Theatre. Woe is me!’
You, reader, are very dramatic… It’s fabulous. You’re made for the stage, darling. Don’t worry. You don’t have to be an Elite student to take part. The workshops are open to all budding thespians.
Each workshop will take place over three days, during which there’ll be singing, dancing, acting, and fun all inspired by the classic musical. (As far as I’m aware, participants will not be asked to clean or tidy anything in the name of ‘fun’). And, in true Mary Poppins generosity, one student from each workshop will be awarded a YEAR’S FULL SCHOLARSHIP to attend classes at Elite Theatre Arts. The person chosen will not just be talented but also embody the school’s core values of positivity, kindness, commitment, and teamwork.
‘These workshops will be truly special,’ says Tony Eccles, Co-founder of Elite Theatre Arts. ‘It’s a rare opportunity for young people on the Isle of Man to work with professionals of this calibre – and we’re so proud to be able to offer these kinds of events.’
Both workshops will take place at Ballakermeen High School, the first is for those aged 8-12 and will run from 18-20th August. The second is for people aged 13-18 and running from 21st-23rd August.
The cost of each workshop is £135 and only limited places are available so get your umbrella and fly over there fast to book a place, spit spot!
