McLaren

Manx students have been able to meet the team at McLaren Automotive thanks to an initiative with Love Tech.

Ballakermeen High School Year 8 students enjoyed a workshop consisting of a presentation all about the automotive industry and careers in engineering, including looking at the components of McLaren supercars, and took part in a competition to design their own supercars with prizes for the top teams!

Gas

Engineers will be able to keep up-to-date with industry required gas, OFTEC and unvented hot water training and accreditation on the Isle of Man starting in the Spring. It comes after the Department of Education, Sport and Culture (DESC) appointed Energy Development Services (EDS) Limited to deliver a range of courses on a two year contract.

Minister Julie Edge said: ‘I am delighted that local people will once again be able to receive this essential training on the Isle of Man. Providing lifelong learning opportunities is an essential part of the Island Plan and this arrangement will help local engineers within this highly regulated and specialist area.’

Give it a Go

The team at the National Sports Centre (NSC) is inviting individuals who are living with or beyond cancer to a “Give it a Go” Afternoon on 8 February 2024.

The afternoon is in support of World Cancer Day, and is designed to provide information to individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer, or who are in remission, about being active with cancer. They will also have the opportunity to try some low impact activities – the schedule involves a brief talk about physical activity and cancer, then Yoga 4 Cancer and Paracise taster sessions, ending with a social opportunity in the café where participants are able to chat to one another and develop new friendships.
