Down But Not Out

Drivers and pedestrians using Woodbourne Road, Douglas may have noticed something looking a little… wonky.

A pedestrian crossing light and control pole at the junction with York Road, Douglas was struck by a vehicle in the early hours of Sunday morning, leaving it heavily damaged and noticeably leaning.

The Department of Infrastructure says its engineers have inspected the column and confirmed it is still working and safe to use, even if it is currently listing at an angle.

Repair work is planned for Friday.

However, in order to carry out the work safely, the permanent traffic lights at the junction will need to be switched off while a set of temporary four-way lights is put in place.

Unfortunately, the earliest those temporary lights are available is Friday, which is why the repair has been scheduled for later this week.

So for now, the slightly crooked crossing light will remain standing guard over the junction, just with a bit more lean than usual.
