School to Finally get New Classroom
The current one is over 40 years old
After being overlooked in 2019, Willaston primary school looks set to finally get a replacement mobile classroom.
The current one is over 40 years old and was said to be in ‘in poor condition’ by the Education Minister back in 2022.
Although approval was granted in 2019 for the replacement of the existing classroom, these works were never carried out as the mobile classroom was used elsewhere.
A planning application submitted by the DESC shows that the department plans to replace the existing double classroom with a new block which will improve the learning environment for children at the school.
The application says: ‘The new mobile classroom will be highly insulated in excess of current standards and have air source heating/cooling to provide year round comfort to the teaching environment. The proposed U-Values of the floor and external walls exceeds the current requirements of Isle of Man Building Regulations and will help reduce the energy requirements and carbon footprint of the structure.
‘The proposed replacement building has a slightly smaller footprint than the existing building however the teaching spaces are very similar.’
