Douglas’ Triple Celebration
Emily Heaton is the first female coxswain in Douglas’ history and just the second on the island
Douglas lifeboat station is celebrating the charity’s 200th anniversary early with three new coxswains.
Having been started by resident Sir William Hillary, Douglas is the spiritual home of the RNLI and its efforts across the British Isles and beyond.
This week has seen three promotions at the station, with Mark Atherton, Richard Coase and Emily Heaton, who after years of commitment and hard work have passed the ultimate assessment in the RNLI, to be confirmed as coxswains.
The station said: ‘Emily becomes the first female Coxswain for Douglas RNLI and the second on the Isle of Man and we could not be more proud that it is at the station that is the birthplace of the modern RNLI.’
