Fire Service’s New Toy
The Magirus is fitted with a 42m turn table ladder on a Volvo chassis.
The island’s Fire and Rescue Service has taken delivery of its tallest ever high-reach rescue ladder.
The Magirus is fitted with a 42m turn table ladder on a Volvo chassis.
This is a first for the island, as the previous high-reach appliance could only go up to 32 metres.
The gov said: ‘This additional capability will future-proof our Fire and Rescue Service by increasing the rescue and firefighting capability to 42 metres, as we see bigger and higher buildings on our island.’
‘The Emergency One/ Magirus has 360 degrees of rotation, a 2,500 litres per min water monitor and a thermal imaging camera capability. It has a comprehensive package which will benefit its operation by our crews for the benefit of our island.’
Crews will spend the next couple of months training before the appliance becomes fully operational.
