Hand in Your Weapons

If you’ve got something at home that definitely shouldn’t be there, and you’d prefer not to explain why, the Isle of Man Constabulary has some good news.

Police have launched a Firearms and Weapons Surrender Amnesty, running from now until Monday, February 2, 2026, giving people the chance to hand in unlicensed, illegal or simply unwanted weapons with no prosecution for possession at the point of surrender.

That means firearms, ammunition, imitation guns, air guns, crossbows and a whole collection of items that probably seemed like a good idea at the time, including knives, swords, machetes, knuckle dusters, stun devices and noxious sprays.

During the amnesty, you can quietly drop these off at Police Headquarters in Douglas, or at police stations in Ramsey, Peel or Castletown. No awkward questions, no judgement, just a polite handover and everyone moves on with their day.

That said, police have warned that while you won’t get in trouble just for handing something in, every item will still be checked.

If it turns out your ‘forgotten’ weapon has been involved in a crime, that’s a different conversation.

If you’re bringing in a firearm, make sure it’s secured, unloaded and made safe, with ammunition removed.

Police also ask that weapons are transported discreetly, mainly to avoid alarming anyone on the way, walking down Strand Street with a sword is very much not the play here folks.

Explosive devices are a hard no.

If you’ve somehow ended up with a grenade, police would very much like you to call them instead of turning up at the front desk. Makes sense to be fair.

Police say the Isle of Man remains a safe place to live and visit, but the fewer weapons lying around, the better, and this amnesty is about keeping it that way.
