Calling All Creatives: Ramsey Wants You (And Your Paintbrushes)

Ramsey Town Commissioners are on the lookout for artists with big ideas, bold colours, and a love for fresh air — because the Mooragh Park Shelter Art Project is almost at the finish line, and two final shelters are ready for their glow-up.

Already, five shelters have had their moment, three more are in progress, and now it’s your turn.

If you’ve got the skills to turn a blank wall into a head-turning mural, they want to hear from you.

Each shelter comes prepped with marine-ply panels (yes, they’re primed and ready to go), just waiting for your masterpiece in exterior acrylic or spray paint. There’s even a technical guide available — because art and engineering can be friends.

Here’s what they need from you:

• A concept sketch (PDF or JPG – keep it classy)

• Your rough costings (materials, sealing, etc.)

• When you’re free to paint (late autumn 2025 is ideal)

• Anything else that’ll make them say ‘Yes please!’

Theme inspiration comes in the form of Ramsey, the Isle of Man, leisure, play — or all of the above. Go wild. Or whimsical. Or historical with a splash of surrealism. It’s your canvas.

Don’t worry about chasing grants — Ramsey Town Commissioners have that covered.

Private sponsors? They’ll consider those too, if someone wants to help fund a bit of fabulous.

And here’s the best bit: once all ten murals are complete, they’ll become part of the brand-new Ramsey Art Trail, linking Mooragh Park to the town centre with a burst of colour, creativity, and hopefully some extra foot traffic for local shops (everyone wins).

So far, we’ve seen everything from abstract waves to a Viking longboat sailing through cartoon clouds — that one’s by the ever-talented Ali and Caroline from ‘Serendipity Arts and Crafts’, and it’s already turning heads by the playground.

Commissioner Juan McGuinness, the brains behind the brushes, said the project is ‘brightening up public spaces and encouraging community participation’.
