Manx Musicians Head to Canada
Ruth and Rachel will take part in the opening concert of the festival
Later this week, Ruth Keggin and Rachel Hair will be performing in Canada as part of the Celtic Colours music festival.
Celtic Colours International Festival begins on the Friday of each Canadian Thanksgiving weekend and celebrates Celtic music from around the world.
Ruth and Rachel will take part in the opening concert of the festival, alongside stellar acts including Blazin’ Fiddles and Le Vent du Nord.
Culture Vannin said: ‘The concert, entitled ‘The Universal Language’, celebrates indigenous languages and the universality of music, and indeed the whole festival has a theme of languages this year, in recognition of the United Nations’ declaration of 2022-2032 as a decade to celebrate indigenous languages. The duo will give other performances throughout the festival, too.
‘Sharing Manx music and language with new audiences, and finding out more about Gaelic in Cape Breton and indigenous languages like Mi’kmaw, shows the wonderful power of culture to transcend borders. It also is a great way to shout about how yindyssagh (wonderful) the Isle of Man is!’
