The Last Dance

Triskel Promotions is to wrap up next year, with its final gig seeing the return of blues star Davy Knowles to the island.

The company has brought acts such as Squeeze, Brian Wilson, Primal Scream, Kaiser Chiefs and Sinéad O’Connor, for what proved to her final gig in the British Isles.

Director Lenny Conroy said: ‘Since the pandemic, business terms notably with the larger UK Agencies representing artists, have changed to the detriment of the small time promoter.’

With larger acts are now insisting on 100% of the artist fee 30 days prior to show day, he said it makes it ‘nigh on impossible for independents’. In the past, stagered deposits and balance were all negotiated prior to going on stage. This gave the smaller companies enough space to operate.

He said: ‘It is just how the music business has gone. Triskel would not be able to budget for a general fee of around £50-60k on those terms.especially if the date was months, even years before happening. The added uncertainty of travel to/from the Island certainly doesn’t help’

To bring the company to a fitting close, Lenny has arranged for two special gigs next year. The first will see unsigned Edinburgh Indie band WREST play Peel Centenar on March 2 with support coming from Jamie Blackburn.

The finale or ‘Last Dance’ seems most fitting. The Gaiety is booked on Saturday April 20 for none other than Blues Rock local legend Davy Knowles.

Based in America, Davy has released his new album of acoustic songs, IF I SHOULD WANDER, a soul bearing, raw and deeply personal collection of songs written during the pandemic.

Lenny said: ‘Triskel would like to thank the many, many people that have attended shows, worked alongside with production, or generally supported them. A genuinely enjoyable ride. The island is well placed for great entertainment to continue with the many other promoters and venues supporting local talent too.

‘I know I will miss it within 5 mins of the last note!’
