Evita comes to the Gaiety Theatre tonight, with the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical brought to the stage by the brilliant cast at Douglas Choral Union.

Beginning with the death of an actress (not sure if that’s a spoiler or not, it’s probably ok), Evita is a whirlwind journey through one woman’s extraordinary and tragically short life.

With actresses Lauren Molyneux  and Leah Carter sharing the duty of leading lady, audiences are in safe hands as both will have you firmly on their side before they break your heart as they bring to life one of the 20th century’s most intriguing and misunderstood political forces.

While they lead the show, their performances are matched by those of Matt Creer’s Che, Thomas Iain Dixon’s Augistin Magaldi and Alex Toohey bringing Juan Peron, the man who to this day still influences much of Argentinian politics, to the stage.

As if that wasn’t enough, Evie Skillicorn and Jade Ward are also sharing one of the show’s biggest numbers in the role as mistress while the ensemble cast bring every scene to life and help set the mood.

Having been privileged enough to sneak into a dress rehearsal, we really could go on and on and on about amazing the show was looking ahead of opening night at the world’s greatest theatre.

Such is the demand for show, we hear that the amphitheatre has been opened for tonight’s opening performance with tickets up in the gods costing just £20 so stop reading  this (actually keep reading, the instructions are below) and go get your tickets, take your friends, your partners, your parents, you really won’t regret it.
