World’s Fastest Boarders Bomb Into Tholt-y-Will

Some of the world’s fastest (and possibly most fearless) skateboarders are heading to the Isle of Man this weekend for Round 3 of the World Downhill Skateboarding Championships.

From 4–6 July, riders will be flying down a 1.2km stretch starting near Sulby Reservoir and finishing in Tholt-y-Will Glen.

The course includes steep drops, fast bends and two hairpin turns near the bottom.

It’s got an average gradient of 8.5%, but hits a spicy 22% in places, so expect speeds pushing 100km/h.

It’s the first time the WDSC has come to the Isle of Man.

Organisers say they couldn’t use part of the TT course this year, but they’re hoping to in future. Which seems like a completely normal and safe idea.

The action kicks off with registration and food stalls at Victory Café on Thursday night.

Qualifying runs are on Friday and Saturday, with the big race on Sunday followed by a prize-giving at 5pm.

There’ll be a race village at the bottom with food, drink, music, and a big screen so you can watch the mayhem without needing first aid.

It’s free to attend, and should be a proper adrenaline-fuelled weekend, provided the weather behaves.
