Green Walk

Sight Matters says its Coast to Coast walk will be greener than ever this year thanks to a partnership with RecycleCollect. The 12-mile challenge from Douglas to Peel is taking place on Sunday 4 September, when organisers hope to break last year’s fundraising record of £8,000.

Money raised will help Sight Matters to continue providing access to the support, tools, and facilities required by those with sight issues to live as independently as they choose. The charity has been seeking ways to ensure the walk’s route along the beautiful Heritage Trail is cared for when hundreds of fundraisers take on the challenge.

RecycleCollect founder, Clara Isaacs, said: ‘It’s fantastic to see local charities prioritising recycling at fundraising events, and Sight Matters are going above and beyond by making sure there are convenient opportunities for participants to dispose of their waste responsibly. It’s also exciting to continue to expand our offering beyond doorstep collection, and provide recycling solutions for such a worthy event.’

Debbie Thompson, Volunteer Coordinator & Events Organiser at Sight Matters said: ‘We’re delighted to have such great support from our sponsors, Conister Bank, and now our partners for the event, RecycleCollect. We encourage all participants to use a refillable water bottle, but for those extra bits and pieces, it’s great to know a responsible solution is close to hand.’

MDC

The Manx Development Corporation (MDC) has said it is considering a large scale scheme in the Westmoreland Road area. Designs are currently being developed, following a masterplanning exercise, with a multi-disciplinary design team.

A statement said: ‘As part of this process, and due to the project’s scale and anticipated interest, we will be undertaking a public consultation. This event will allow the gathering of feedback to help shape and inform the development of the design. The date will be publicised in due course. MDC looks forward to sharing its visions with the wider public for this exciting, sustainable, development which is anticipated to provide a mixture of residential dwellings, high quality public & community space and places to work. 

‘In addition to this scheme and the Former Nurses Home, MDC has also commenced feasibility work on a number of Government-owned brownfield sites within Douglas and we look forward to sharing more news on these in the coming months.’
