Malnourished Pup Rescued

Manx Wildlife Trust staff, volunteer seal sitters and marine mammal medics have removed a seal pup off Fenella beach and took it to the seal sanctuary for vet care.

The pup was said to be ‘undernourished and exhausted’.

MWT said: ‘The pup had been monitored by volunteers for over 24 hours and with no signs of its mother and its low weight it was determined to be the best thing for its welfare. A massive thank you to our fantastic volunteers, with out which we wouldn’t be able to help this fantastic species as much as we can currently!’

And MWT’s artist in residence Clare Payne added that the pup is receiving treatment from the vet and ‘flippers crossed, she’ll be healthy enough to be re-released soon’.

If you are worried about a seal or pup’s health, or they are at risk of disturbance on busy public beaches, contact MWT and its volunteer seal sitters will assess their condition and put up signage: call 844 432 during office hours or send a Facebook message

And, if you see a seal on a beach, keep your distance and DO NOT push it back into the water. They need rest, especially during bouts of bad whether like we are having currently.
