MWT in The Community

Manx Wildlife Trust is inviting residents to get involved with its community consultation to explore ideas and learn more about getting involved in a new group.

The charity wants people to get involved in a number of new projects in the east of the island, run by its new Eastern Community Group.

Community Ranger Hannah Philips explained that hers is a relatively new position aimed at engaging more of the public with wildlife through community led projects.

Several of these projects provide the opportunity of a blank canvas to help the island’s amazing and diverse wildlife.

The charity said: ‘We’d like the community to take the lead and change these spaces for the benefit of both people and wildlife. As long as it ticks that criteria, then we are open to all ideas! Whether this be a community garden, orchard, microforest, whatever!

‘Come along to our community consultation to explore ideas and learn more about getting involved in our new Eastern Community Group. Everyone is welcome and all skills are gladly received! It doesn’t matter if gardening and physical labour aren’t your thing! We also need creatives, organisers and big thinkers! Come to our consultation and tell us your ideas for encouraging wildlife to your neighbourhood.’

There is also an open evening is on Tuesday September 6 at Onchan Church Hall from 7pm.

Alternative, MWT will be at the Sea Terminal on Saturday and Sunday, September 10/11.
