Two Weather Warnings Issued

Heavy rain and coastal overtopping are the order of business for tonight with the Met Office issuing two weather warnings.

Both are yellow and in place overnight.

The first, for coastal overtopping, has been in place since 10.45am this morning and is in force until 3.45am tomorrow.

Areas most at risk include: Douglas Promenade, Laxey Promenade and Ramsey Promenade.

The Met Office says: ‘Strong easterly winds will continue to affect the island, leading to minor overtopping of waves with a risk of debris in exposed areas a couple of hours either side of the next high tides (approximately 12.45pm today and 1am overnight).’

A second warning, for heaving rain, is for the whole island, with the highest accumulations over high ground.

That warning is in force from 10pm tonight until 8am on Wednesday.

The Met Office said: ‘Band of rain overnight, heavy at times, is expected to give 5-15mm of rain widely with 20-35mm over high ground. This falling onto already saturated ground and may lead to localised surface water flooding in prone locations, especially in areas with blocked drains etc.

‘Rain clearing on Wednesday morning then a risk of showers later in the day and these may be heavy at times. A further band of heavy rain is also possible for Thursday. Both these aspects will be constantly monitored and this warning extended/updated as/when required.’
