Overall the month was warmer, drier and sunnier than average.
August set a new record for the highest record temperature in the month, with it also seeing the island’s second hottest day on record at 27.9c.

That hottest day, recorded at Ronaldsway, was on Saturday August 13, during the Royal Show.
Ronaldsway Met Office said the mean daytime maximum at the airport was 19.9c, 1.8c higher than average. The overnight maximum was 13.3c, 0.7c above average and the 24 hour mean was 16.7c, 1.3c higher than above average making it the fourth warmest on record after 1995, 1997 and 2003.
Throughout the month, the total rainfall measured was 54.7mm, only 80% of the long term average. Almost a third of that fell on August 16 when 16.6mm of rain fell.
So far this year, only February and May have had above average rainfall and the rainfall deficit so far is 140mm (5.5 inches).
August was also well above average for sunshine hours, totalling 235.9 hours, with the sunniest days being August 10 and 11, with 14.5 sunshine hours on both days.
As many of us will remember, there was thunder on August 2 and 15, with the thunderstorm on the morning of August 15 causing damage to several houses.
