Ravens March (Fly?) On
FC Isle of Man are through to the next round of the First Division Challenge Cup after a 2-0 win away at Cheadle Town last night. With a starting XI which had an average age of just 22, Chris Bass’ youngest side to date, dispatched their hosts with two second half goals, the first of which came from Nathan Cardy before debutant Ronan McDonnell sealed the win.
Ukraine Vigil
Tonight sees a vigil being held in Douglas’ Villiers Square to show the island’s support for the people of Ukraine. The vigil gets underway at 6.30pm.
Historical Chair
The gov is seeking to appoint a Chairperson and Trustees (non-Tynwald members) to the Manx Museum and National Trust. Austria
Austria has decided to suspend its mandate for compulsory Covid-19 vaccinations for over-18s, days before it was due to start enforcing it.
It was the first EU country to adopt the measure. The government now says it considers it disproportionate to the threat posed by the Omicron variant.Â
Health Minister Johannes Rauch said the decision would be reviewed again in three months, and could be reintroduced if a new variant made it necessary. It comes as nearly 48,000 new infections were announced in Austria, more than at any time since the pandemic began.
Ed Sheeran
Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid has described the idea of stealing other people’s work as ‘abhorrent’, during the copyright trial over a song he wrote with Ed Sheeran.
Sheeran, McDaid and co-writer Steve Mac have been accused of taking ‘particular lines and phrases’ for the song Shape Of You from a track called Oh Why, by an artist called Sami Switch. In written evidence, McDaid said he could not recall ever hearing Oh Why ‘in any way’ and was unaware of Sami Switch before the legal case began. The musician is more well-known to the public as Johnny McDaid, but in the court papers he is named as John. He has written hits for Pink, BTS, Alicia Keys and Rag’n’Bone Man, added that he would never take credit for another writer’s work.
