It’s Time to Talk Menopause

As much as we like to think of ourselves as a modern, compassionate and open society, there are still subjects that are considered, if not taboo, then private.

One of them is the menopause and today, during World Menopause Day, a campaigner is wanting to change that.

Trudi Roscouet of Vitality40Plus, a resident of Jersey, is a menopause educator and has made it her passion to not only educate women on the symptoms of the menopause with her ‘Bookmark’ but to help companies become more menopause friendly.

‘It is so important to embrace women’s health,’ she says. ‘As women are the largest sector of our ever growing workforce. Whether it’s endometriosis, PMDD, fibroids and latterly menopause, it is important that corporates open the door and start the conversation.’

Trudi’s vision was the face of the Menopause ‘Time to Talk’ and the image is to be displayed on the evening of World Menopause Day on government and national historic buildings in Jersey and Guernsey, Castle Rushen here on the island and the Moorish Castle in Gibraltar.

The second part of the campaign was to include the buses and to embellish the design with the sponsors logos, including a double decker bus that will be out on Manx roads.

Sovereign Group CEO Gerry Kelly commented: ‘The Sovereign Group are very pleased to support Menopause Awareness Month 2022. We have a majority female workforce and this is an issue that all need to be aware of. Men need to be part of the conversation and training too as they might be supporting others going through it. We want to create and encourage an environment where we talk about menopause openly. It is a natural phase in life that needs to be normalised.’

‘Deloitte is proud to support the Menopause Month awareness campaign. If the topic of menopause is raised, it’s important to acknowledge that it’s a normal stage of life, and that changes and adjustments can easily be made by employers,’ added Marc Cleeve, Deloitte.
