Tipples to Tokes: Gov Wants Your Views on Drugs

Fancy having your say on your medicinal cannabis, your favourite tipple, or that dodgy party you definitely didn’t mention to your mum? Well, now’s your chance.

Public Health has launched a survey to better understand how medicinal cannabis is being used, the patterns of alcohol and illicit drug use, and what the island thinks about it all.

The survey opened on Wednesday, February 4, and runs until Wednesday, March 18. Anyone aged 18 or over who lives on the Isle of Man can take part.

Director of Public Health Dr Matt Tyrer said: ‘The survey is important because it gives us the opportunity to build a solid research base on medicinal cannabis use… Responses are valuable because they will help us understand patterns of substance use in society.”

Basically, they want to know what’s going on, but they promise your secrets are safe, anonymous and confidential.

The survey is being carried out by Liverpool John Moores University, and for those of you who really want to chat, medicinal cannabis users can even volunteer for one-to-one follow-up phone interviews.

Dr Evelyn Hearne, a public health researcher on the project, said participants will be able to express their interest at the end of the survey.

No lectures, no judgment, just the chance to have your voice heard and maybe contribute to a report later this year.
