We Asked People On The Street If They’re Happy – The Answers Might Surprise You

Today is the one day a year when being happy is officially on the agenda worldwide.

Every March 20, countries across the globe come together to recognise the importance of happiness and its impact on society.

Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012, the day is all about promoting happiness and wellbeing as fundamental human goals – because, let’s be honest, we could all do with a bit more of both.

So, in the name of journalistic integrity (and good vibes), Gef’s Happiness Correspondent, Sadie, hit Strand Street to ask the big question: are you happy? And, more importantly, did anyone actually know it was International Happiness Day?

Among those spreading some serious good energy was Alex Cowley, a busker outside M&S, who had no doubts about his answer.

‘I’m happy 365 days a year because I do this full time. The key to happiness is doing what you love,’ he said, strumming away with an enviable level of contentment.

So, what’s the secret to happiness for the rest of us mere mortals? Well, we reckon it could be treating yourself—whether that’s indulging in a few extra sweet treats, sinking into a bubble bath, or embracing the good old-fashioned joy of a cheeky pint.

Whatever you do, Gef The Mongoose wishes you a Happy International Day of Happiness! Go forth, smile, and do something that lifts your spirits.
