A motorcyclist has been issued with a fixed penalty notice after riding off-piste through a protected area.

The Environment Department said it was made award of the issue after reports came through on Friday.

After attending the Central Hills Area of Special Scientific Interest yesterday, wardens detained the motorcyclist who was then issued a fixed penalty notice by Police who had also attended.

DEFA said: ‘Locals and visitors exploring our beautiful island over TT are reminded to Stay On The Right Track, as many of our greenway roads and green lanes travel across the Manx uplands where the risk posed by travelling off-piste is very high to this significantly important environment and the species which call it home such as protected ground nesting birds.

‘We encourage all visitors and locals to scan the QR code displayed on signs across the DEFA upland estate to access a Green Lanes and Greenway map. Alternatively, physical copies are available from the Welcome Centre located at the Sea Terminal and local bookshops.’
