New Plans for Former Air Raid Shelter Site

An application has been submitted to build four homes on the site of former air raid shelter in Douglas.

This application comes just two months after planners rejected a proposal to build six homes on the same site.

Tim Luft’s application would see four detached houses, with associated infrastructure, built on the site on Victoria Road.

The houses would be five-bed homes, split over three floors.

The air raid shelter, which was in a poor state and dangerous to any certain young people who may have once explored it (not that I ever did…) was demolished in the last few years, with some trees also being cleared from the area.

If approved, the four homes would be built in ‘much the same brick facades and steep roofs that characterise the area’

While the previous application would have resulted in the removal of the existing lime trees to the boundary of Victoria Road, the new application proposes the removal of six of the trees to the frontage of Victoria Road to afford sight lines to the access road, with five field maple trees being used as a replacement.
